Kinji Fukasaku
Japanese filmmaker Kinji Fukasaku has passed away. Kinji was in the midst to making the sequel to one of the greatest, twisted, socially consious, ultraviolent films I have ever seen…”Battle Royale.” Apparently, two weeks ago, he handed direction duties over to his son, who penned both of the scripts for “Battle Royale” and “Battle Royale 2.” This is a sad day for a director who only achieved film geek cult status here in the states. “Battle Royale” is a film that needs to be widely released here in the states. Even the Flaming Lips know of the signifigance of the film as they used a bit of it during their live show. That pigfucker on www.aintitcool.com, Harry Knowles, had a very touching tribute to Kinji…who is also known for his work in the film “Tora, Tora, Tora” and the film that influenced George Lucas, “Message From Space.” Check out Harry’s tribute by clicking the kick ass film poster below.
