The comeback that wasn’t
The big story in the mainstream media today is all about the mainstream media. They are leading with “How could we have been so wrong?”
The answer. You weren’t wrong.
I heard numerous times that no one knew where independents would go and if too many split for McCain they could allow Obama to beat Clinton.
I heard numerous times that polling couldn’t be trusted because of the independents.
I also remember Obama was 14 points behind in those polls a week ago and finished less than three. That is important.
I also remember New Hampshire was supposed to be Clinton’s firewall state and Iowa was never a sure thing.
I also remember a couple of months ago when the media was falling all over itself to crown Clinton the Democratic nominee. Remember that SNL sketch with Brian Williams?
Finally, Obama putting Clinton in third in Iowa was an upset. Clinton beating Obama by less than two percent in New Hampshire by less than 3-percent is not. It is also not a “comeback” to tie the score 1-1 in the second inning.
For the record, I called an Obama victory by 14 points and a Romney victory by 2 because I thought New Hampshire independents would vote against the status quo and gravitate toward Obama. I’m surprised by the results, but not shocked.
